The Beauty of the Hur Al-Een (the Wide Eyed Maidens) of Paradise

Hoor Een is the plural of Hawraa’, meaning, white and beautiful female, and the word ‘Ainaa’, meaning, a woman who has large and lovely eyes, with an intense blackness [of their pupil of the eye] and the intense whiteness of the sclera (the white part ) of the eyes.

“And with them will be maidens of modest gaze, most beautiful of eye,” [Surah As-Saaffaat 37:48]

“and with them maidens restraining their glances of equal age.” [Surah Saad 38:52]

“Even so; and We shall espouse them to wide-eyed houris,” [Surah Ad-Dukhaan 44:54]

“They will be reclining on thrones lined up, and We will marry them to fair women with large, [beautiful] eyes.” [Surah At-Toor 52:20]

“In these [gardens] will be maidens of modest gaze, whom neither man nor jinn will have touched before them.” [Surah Ar-Rahmaan 55:56]

“Fair ones cloistered in pavilions” [Surah Ar-Rahmaan 55:72]

“And (there will be) Hoor (fair females) with wide lovely eyes (as wives for Al-Muttaqoon – the pious), like unto preserved pearls; a reward for what they used to do.”
[Surah Al-Waaqi’ah 56:22-24]

“Indeed, for the righteous is attainment * Gardens and grapevines * And young full-breasted (mature) maidens of equal age” [Surah An-Naba’ 78:32-34]

It was narrated by Anas Ibn Maalik, that the messenger of Allah (may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “If one of the women of Paradise looked at the earth, she would fill the whole space between them (the earth and the heaven) with light, and would fill whatever is in between them, with perfume, and the veil of her face is better than the whole world and whatever is in it.” [Bukhari 2796]

Narrated Abu Huraira, that the messenger of Allah (may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “The first group (of people) who will enter Paradise will be (glittering) like the moon when it is full. They will not spit or blow their noses or defecate. Their utensils will be of gold and their combs of gold and silver; in their centers the aloe wood will be used, and their sweat will smell like musk. Everyone of them will have two wives; the marrow of the bones of the wives’ legs will be seen through the flesh out of great beauty. They ( i.e. the people of Paradise) will neither have differences nor hatred among themselves; their hearts will be as if one heart and they will be glorifying Allah in the morning and in the evening.” [Bukhari 3245]

Narrated ibn ‘Umar, that the messenger of Allah (may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:“Indeed the women of Paradise sing to their husbands in the most beautiful of voices ever heard by anyone, saying: We are the good and beautiful women, the wives of noble men, who gaze delightfully [at our husbands]. We are the immortals who do not die, we are safe who are never in fear, we are settled, and will never travel” [At-Tabaraani 734]

The Gathering of the Person and His Family in Paradise

“‘And (Eden) Paradise (everlasting Gardens), which they shall enter and (also) those who acted righteously from among their fathers, and their wives, and their offspring. And angels shall enter unto them from every gate…” [al-Ra’d 13:23]

“They and their wives will be in pleasant shade, reclining on thrones.” [Yaa-Seen 36:56]
“Enter Paradise, you and your wives, in happiness.” [al-Zukhruf 43:70]

The Beauty of the Faces of the People of Paradise

“And with them will be maidens of modest gaze, most beautiful of eye,” [Surah As-Saaffaat 37:48]

“Even so; and We shall espouse them to wide-eyed houris,” [Surah Ad-Dukhaan 44:54]

They will be reclining on thrones lined up, and We will marry them to fair women with large, [beautiful] eyes.” [Surah At-Toor 52:20]

“Fair ones cloistered in pavilions” [Surah Ar-Rahmaan 55:72]

Narrated Abu Hurairah (may Allaah be pleased with him), that the messenger of Allah (may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “The first group to enter Paradise will look like the moon on the night when it is full, they will not spit, blow their noses or defecate. Their vessels will be of gold, their combs will be of gold and silver*, their sweat will smell like musk and their incense will be the Ulwah (aloeswood). Each will be married to two of Al-Hoor Al-‘Een, the marrow of the bones of the wives’ legs will be seen through the flesh out of excessive beauty. They will have no disagreement between them, nor hatred, their hearts will be as if one heart. They will be praising Allah day and night.” [Bukhari 3245]

Narrated Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with them), that the messenger of Allah (may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “The first group to enter Paradise will look like the moon on the night when it is full, then those who follow them will look like the brightest star in the sky, their hearts will be as if one heart, and they will have no disagreement between them, nor hatred. Each will be married to two of Al-Hoor Al-‘Een, the marrow of the bones of the wives’ legs will be seen through the flesh out of excessive beauty, and they will be praising Allah day and night. They will suffer no illnesses nor will they spit or blow their noses. Their vessels will be of gold and silver and their combs will be of gold; the coals of their incense burners will be aloeswood and their sweat will smell like musk.” [Bukhari 3246 Muslim 2834 and others]

Narrated by Sahl ibn Sa’d (may Allaah be pleased with him), according to which the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “Seventy thousand, or a seven hundred thousand of my ummah will enter Paradise, the first of them will not enter until the last of them does so. Their faces will be as [beautiful as] the full moon.“ [Bukhari 3247].

Narrated Anas Ibn Maalik that the messenger of Allah (may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “In Paradise there is a market to which [people] would go to every Friday. The north wind will blow on them on their faces and on their clothes and would add to their goodness and beauty, and then they would go back to their wives after they have being endowed with more beauty and pleasantness, and their wives would say to them: By Allah, you have become more beautiful and pleasant since we last saw you, and they would say: By Allah, you have also become more beautiful and pleasant since we last saw you.” [Muslim 2833]

Narrated Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with them) that the messenger of Allah (may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “The first group to enter Paradise will look like the moon on the night when it is full, then those who follow them will look like the brightest star in the sky; they will not urinate or defecate or spit or blow their noses. Their combs will be of gold and their sweat will smell like musk and their incense will be aloeswood. Their wives will be Al-Hoor al-‘Een. Their appearance will be the same and they will look like their father Adam who was sixty cubits tall.”

The Cleanliness and Purity of the People of Paradise

“The first group to enter Paradise will look like the moon on the night when it is full, then those who follow them will look like the brightest star in the sky; they will not urinate or defecate or spit or blow their noses. Their combs will be of gold and their sweat will be musk and their incense-burners will be pearls. Their wives will be al-hoor al-‘iyn. Their appearance will be the same and they will look like their father Adam who was sixty cubits tall.”
(Saheeh al-Jaami’, 2015).

Narrated Abu Huraira:
Allah’s Apostle said, “The first group (of people) who will enter Paradise will be (glittering) like the moon when it is full. *They will not spit or blow their noses or defecate. Their utensils will be of gold and their combs of gold and silver; in their centers the aloe wood will be used, and their sweat will smell like musk. Everyone of them will have two wives; the marrow of the bones of the wives’ legs will be seen through the flesh out of great beauty. They ( i.e. the people of Paradise) will neither have differences nor hatred amongst themselves; their hearts will be as if one heart and they will be glorifying Allah in the morning and in the evening.”

The Children of the Believers in Paradise

Imaam Ahmed, Ibn Hibbaan and al-Haakim report from Abu Hurayrah that the Prophet (saw) said, “The children of the believers are in Paradise, being cared for by Ibraahim (as) [and in the narration of
Abu Nu’aym, ad-Dawylami, and Ibn Asakir it adds- “and Sarah, until they give them back to their
parents on the day of Resurrection”]

The Spouses of the People of Paradise

“And with them will be maidens of modest gaze, most beautiful of eye,” [Surah As-Saaffaat 37:48]

Narrated Abu Sa‘eed Al-Khudree (may Allah be pleased with them) that the messenger of Allah (may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said (regarding the last person who will enter into Paradise): “..And Allah will remind him saying, “ask for such and such” and when he has stated his wishes, Allah will say, “You will have them and ten times its like”. Then he will enter his house [in Paradise] and his two wives from among Al-Hoor Al-‘Een will enter and say, “Praise be to Allah who has created you for us and created us for you”. He will say, “No one has ever been given like what I have been given.” [Muslim 188]

Narrated Anas Ibn Maalik (may Allah be pleased with them) that the messenger of Allah (may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “In Paradise there is a market to which [people] would go to every Friday. The north wind will blow on them on their faces and on their clothes and would add to their goodness and beauty, and then they would go back to their wives after they have being endowed with more beauty and pleasantness, and their wives would say to them: By Allah, you have become more beautiful and pleasant since we last saw you, and they would say: By Allah, you have also become more beautiful and pleasant since we last saw you.” [Muslim 2833]

Narrated Mu’aadh Ibn Jabal (may Allah be pleased with them) that the messenger of Allah (may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:“When a woman annoys her husband in this world, his wife among Al-Hoor Al-‘Een will says: May Allah wage his war against you! Don’t annoy him. He is only a passing guest with you and is about to leave you and come to us!” [At-Tirmidhi 1174]

Narrated ibn ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with them), that the messenger of Allah (may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:“Indeed the women of Paradise sing to their husbands in the most beautiful of voices ever heard by anyone, saying: We are the good and beautiful women, the wives of noble men, who gaze delightfully [at our husbands]. We are the immortals who do not die, we are safe who are never in fear, we are settled, and will never travel” [At-Tabaraani 734]

The Appearance and Height of the People of Paradise

“The first group to enter Paradise will look like the moon on the night when it is full, then those who follow them will look like the brightest star in the sky; they will not urinate or defecate or spit or blow their noses. Their combs will be of gold and their sweat will be musk and their incense-burners will be pearls. Their wives will be al-hoor al-‘iyn. *Their appearance will be the same and they will resemble their father Adam who was sixty cubits tall.*”
(Saheeh al-Jaami’, 2015).

Harmony and Concord between the People of Paradise

They ( i.e. the people of Paradise) will neither have differences nor hatred among themselves; their hearts will be as if one heart and they will be glorifying Allah in the morning and in the evening.”

The Age and Youthfulness of the People of Paradise

Narrated by Mu’aadh Ibn Jabal: the Prophet [Peace be Upon him] Said: “When the people of Jannah enter Jannah, they will be Jurd [Hairless on the body], Murd [Hairless on the face], Mukaahileen [Having there eyes edges darkened as though they had Kohl applied to them] and thirty three years in age.“ [At-Tirmidhi 2545]

Muslim reports from Abu Hurayrah that the Prophet (may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “Whoever enters Paradise is blessed, and will never be miserable, his clothes will never wear out and his youth will never fade away.” [Saheeh Muslim, Kitaab al-Jannah, Baab fi Dawam Na’eem al-Jannah, 4/2181, no. 2836]

The Servants of the People of Paradise

“And there go round, waiting on them young malesrvants of their own, as they were hidden pearls.” [Surah Al-Tur 52:24]

“There wait on them immortal youths” [Surah Al-Waaqi’ah 56:17]

“And round about them will (serve) immortal youths. If you see them, you would think them scattered pearls.” [Surah Al-Insaan 76:19]

The Children of the Believers and the Non-believers in Paradise

Narrated Samura bin Jundub:
Allah’s Apostle very often used to ask his companions, “Did anyone of you see a dream?” So dreams would be narrated to him by those whom Allah wished to tell. One morning the Prophet said, “Last night two persons came to me (in a dream) and woke me up and said to me, ‘Proceed!’ ....till we reached a garden of deep green dense vegetation, having all sorts of spring colors. In the midst of the garden there was a very tall man and I could hardly see his head because of his great height, and around him there were children in such a large number as I have never seen. I said to my companions, ‘Who is this?’ They replied, ‘Proceed! Proceed!’.... (until they said:)..and the tall man whom you saw in the garden, is Abraham and the children around him are those children who die with Al-Fitra (the Islamic Faith).” The narrator added: Some Muslims asked the Prophet, “O Allah’s Apostle! What about the children of pagans?” The Prophet replied, “And also the children of polytheists.” (Bukhari 7047)

The Gatekeepers of Paradise

“But those who feared their Lord will be driven to Paradise in groups until, when they reach it while its gates have been opened and its keepers say, “Peace be upon you; you have become pure; so enter it to abide eternally therein,“ [they will enter].” (Surah Al-Zumar 39:73)

The Grades of the People of Paradise

“Those are the believers, truly. For them are degrees [of high position] with their Lord and forgiveness and noble provision.” [Surah Al-Anfaal 8:4]

Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) said, that the messenger of Allah (May the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:“There are a hundred levels in paradise prepared by Allah for those who fight (or strive) in the path of Allah, between each grade and the other is like the distance between the heavens and the earth. But if you ask [Allah] then ask [Him] for Al-Firdaws, for it’s the highest and the best place in paradise.” [Bukhari 2790]

Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) said, that the messenger of Allah (May the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:“There are a hundred levels in paradise, the distance between each one of them and the other is a hundred years” [At-Tirmidhi 2529]

Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) said, that the messenger of Allah (May the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:“The highest level of paradise cannot be attained but by one person and I hope that I will be that one.” [At-Tirmidhi 3612]

Abdullaah ibn ‘Amr (May Allah be pleased with him) said, that the messenger of Allah (May the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:“It will be said to the bearer of the Qur’an (i.e. one who memorizes it), read and ascend, and recite as you used to do in the previous life, for your abode shall be at the level at which you stop reciting.” [Abu Dawud 1464]

People

The Appearance of the People of Jahannam

“And those who have earned evil deeds, the recompense of an evil deed is the like thereof, and humiliating disgrace will cover them (their faces). No defender will they have from Allah. Their faces will be covered, as it were, with pieces from the darkness of night. They are dwellers of the Fire, they will abide therein forever.” [Surah Yoonus 10:27]

“And you will see the criminals that Day bound together in fetters; Their garments of liquid pitch, and their faces covered with Fire“ [Surah Ibraaheem 14:49,50]

“And on the Day of Resurrection you will see those who lied about Allah [with] their faces blackened. Is there not in Hell a residence for the arrogant?” [Surah Al-Zumar 39:60]

“The Fire will burn their faces, and they will therein grin, with their lips displaced.” [Surah Al-Mu’minoon 23:104]

The Gatekeepers of Jahannam

“And those who disbelieved will be driven to Hell in groups until, when they reach it, its gates are opened and its keepers will say, “Did there not come to you messengers from yourselves, reciting to you the verses of your Lord and warning you of the meeting of this Day of yours?” They will say, “Yes, but the word of punishment has come into effect upon the disbelievers.” (Surah Al-Zumar 39:71)

Narrated Samura bin Jundub:

Beside him there was a fire and he was kindling it and running around it. I asked my companions, ‘Who is this (man)?’ They said to me, ‘Proceed! Proceed!’ ...(until they said to him:) and the bad looking man whom you saw near the fire kindling it and going round it, is Malik, the gatekeeper of Hell..” Bukhari 7047
